Reasons to oppose the delegate reallocation amendment:
Overly broad language
An allocation of only 80%, 20%, or even 1% of delegate seats to the precincts would be allowable.
If delegates are not elected in precincts (currently the only specified primary method), any method for selection becomes permissible because no limitations are specified.
Undermines local control at the precinct level
Transfer of power from the grassroots Republicans at the precinct level to the county parties and the state party does not advance local control.
Erodes accountability
Granting automatic delegate status to elected officials and party officers strikes at the separation of powers doctrine, weakens our system of checks and balances, and undermines political accountability of these officals and officers.
Creates an unfair election process
Automatic status for incumbent elected officials is unfair to challengers in nominating conventions.
Opportunities for mischief in multi-county legislative races
Because delegates would no longer have to be allocated based on Republican voting strength at the precinct level, it would be allowable for delegates to be "stacked" (concentrated) in a certain area to achieve a particular outcome. See Abuses.
Through stacking, a county could exert a disproportionate influence in a particular legislative outcome, and thereby deny other counties their right to be fairly represented.
Denies representation based upon Republican voting strength
Delegates can be strategically selected from only certain areas of a legislative district within a county, giving an unfair advantage to a particular single-county candidate. This deprives Republicans in other areas of the district of representation to which they are entitled.

James Madison:
There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.
