More specifically, the amendment is flawed for these reasons:
- It would create a second method based on “registered affiliated Republican voters” to allocate delegates to precincts. However, in contrast to the existing “relative Republican strength” method, the new method contains no requirement to proportionally allocate delegates to precincts based on Republican strength.
- Because the proposed method does not require proportional delegate allocation, it would allow other methods to be employed. These include the appointment and automatic assignment of delegates, instead of their election in your precinct.
- The amendment combines all small precincts at the district or county level. This consolidation of decision-making power is unnecessary. A grassroots alternative would be to combine small precincts with neighboring precincts.
